About the Award

Each winner of the Indiana Authors Awards will receive an award that reflects what it honors: natural elements that have been shaped, forged, polished and united to create something remarkable.

With limestone, the award recognizes elements drawn from the Indiana landscape and carved into creations at once solid and whimsical, abrasive and smooth. With steel, it represents raw material refined by sweat and fire for molding into innumerable shapes and textures.

Designed and fabricated by Indiana Humanities Multimedia Manager Tom Streit – a sculptor and former quarryman – each award resembles a book with its combination of hard edges and soft curves, and, like its honorees, each award bears distinctly individual characteristics even as it stands among its peers.
